FAQs
Permanent Christmas Lights Questions, Answered
Permanent, customizable outdoor lighting with no more seasonal hanging and taking down. Here's what people ask us most.
Permanent Lights Basics
What are permanent Christmas lights?
Permanent Christmas lights are LED lights mounted in a slim track under your roofline that stay up all year. Instead of hanging strands every season, you change colors from an app: red and green for Christmas, warm white for everyday accent lighting, bright white for security, or your team's colors on game day.
Are the best permanent Christmas lights worth it compared to hanging lights every year?
If you pay someone to hang and take down holiday lights each year, or spend weekends on a ladder, a permanent system usually pays for itself in a few seasons and you get to use it the other eleven months. Trimlight also carries a lifetime product warranty, which seasonal lights don't.
What's the difference between permanent lights and LED strip lights?
Stick-on LED strip lights are a flexible tape that fades, peels and isn't made for Midwest weather. Trimlight uses individual sealed 3L LED lights set in a rigid, color-matched aluminum track that is screwed to the fascia or soffit, so it holds up for years.
Installation & Compatibility
How is Trimlight installed on my home?
Our crew mounts low-profile aluminum track along your roofline, color-matched to your trim. The lights sit in the track and the wiring runs to a weatherproof power panel.
Can you see the track during the day?
Barely. The track mounts tight under the eave and is matched to your trim color, so from the street it blends into the house.
Will my HOA approve it?
Usually, yes, because the track is hard to see during the day. We'll give you product information and photos to submit with your request.
How long does installation take?
Most homes are done in a single day. Larger or two-story homes can take longer, and we'll tell you up front when we quote.
Can you install in the winter?
Yes, weather permitting. Cold days are fine. We reschedule for ice, snow or high wind so the crew stays safe and the install is done right.
What if I repaint or re-roof later?
The system can be taken down and reinstalled, adjusted or expanded. Let us know ahead of time and we'll quote it for you.
Technology & Control
How easy is the app to use?
Very. The Trimlight EDGE app lets you pick colors and patterns, save scenes and set schedules. We set it up and walk you through it on install day.
Can I control it when I'm not home?
Yes. As long as the controller is on your home Wi-Fi, you can change your lights from anywhere.
Does it work with Alexa or Google?
Yes. The EDGE controller works with Amazon Alexa and Google voice assistants for on/off and color commands.
Can different sections be different colors?
Larger homes can be set up as separate systems so sections can run on their own. Ask about it at your estimate.
Investment & Value
How much do permanent Christmas lights cost?
Every home is different. Most homes we light land between about $2,500 and $7,000, out the door. Larger homes, two-story rooflines and lots of peaks run higher. Price depends on how many feet you light, your roofline and the number of stories. We measure your home and give you a written quote, free with no obligation.
Do you offer financing?
Yes, financing is available for qualified customers. Ask when you request your estimate and we'll send you a link to check your options.
Do you service lights another company installed?
Yes. We troubleshoot, repair and upgrade existing permanent lighting systems, including older lights in track another company put up.
What does the warranty cover?
Trimlight's lifetime product warranty covers covered parts, and our 2-year workmanship warranty covers our installation. Warranty service calls are free.
Practical Considerations
Will it run up my electric bill?
Very little. Each light draws about 0.9 watts, so a typical front roofline uses about as much as one or two old-style light bulbs. For most homes that's a few dollars a month.
What about snow, ice and storms?
The lights are sealed and rated for outdoor use year-round. If something fails, the product warranty covers parts and our workmanship warranty covers labor.
What maintenance does it need?
Very little. An occasional rinse or wipe to clear dust, cobwebs or debris keeps it looking its best.
Is it just for Christmas?
No. Most customers run warm white every night, then switch to holiday, game-day or celebration colors whenever they want.
Commercial
Do you install on businesses?
Yes. Storefronts, offices, churches, schools and community buildings, as well as homes, shops and outbuildings.
Can I show my brand colors?
Yes. Set your brand colors, seasonal promotions or event lighting from the app in seconds.
Getting Started
How do I get started?
Request a free estimate online or call or text us. We'll set a time to measure, send your written quote, and schedule your install once you approve.

Yes. Those are our three home bases. See our St. Joseph, Falls City and Hiawatha pages, or the full town list below.
When should I book to have lights before Christmas?
As early as you can. Fall is our busiest season, so requesting your estimate in October or early November gives you the best chance of being lit for the holidays.
